REVIEW OF BUSINESS ~ Financial Distress and Bankruptcy

CALL FOR PAPERS

Review of Business, in co-operation with Institute for Financial Distress Research and Education, is seeking academic papers for a special issue on Financial Distress and Bankruptcy.

In the past year, extreme economic circumstances became an everyday reality even for most well-established and prudent enterprises. High-profile business bankruptcies are in the news regularly and more are expected. A wave of personal bankruptcies is anticipated in the near future. Businesses and individuals alike are asking important questions: How to stay afloat? How to prepare for the future? While COVID-19 is a new development, the world economy has previously seen other extraordinary events. Research can assist in bridging a knowledge gap between inferences from the past and uncertainty of future developments. As a consideration for publication, an emphasis on the COVID-related crisis will be a plus, but priority will still be given to high-quality research.

We invite authors to submit their research papers that focus on the following topics:

  1. How should individuals, businesses, and government prepare for tail risk events?
  2. How quickly will economic shock spread through the system, when impact will reach various sectors of the economy, what to expect, and how to respond? What strategies may be used to in navigate through the economic downturn?
  3. Banking system reaction and resilience: real test of stress testing.
  4. Is our bankruptcy system robust enough to handle such a massive wave of financial distress?
  5. Prevention of abuse of the bankruptcy process and safety net.
  6. Governmental economic response to catastrophic events.
  7. Path to recovery on micro- and macro-economic levels.

Selected papers will be invited for presentations. The Institute for Financial Distress Research and Education established a Best Paper Award. The best paper will be recognized in the journal issue and author(s) will receive $1,000 monetary prize.

Please submit your paper by email RB-FinDistress@psu.edu with a copy to robjournal@stjohns.edu. The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2021. Authors of the selected papers will be informed in May 2021.
